Rivers State governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi has reiterated his
administration’s resolve to pay the eighteen thousand naira minimum wage
to the state civil servants who have contributed immensely to effective
governance.

Governor Amaechi who was represented by the deputy governor, Tele Ikuru
stated this at the opening ceremony of this year’s civil service week in
Port Harcourt.

The governor extolled the efforts of the state civil servants who have
daunting challenges to assiduously deliver on the mandate of ensuring the
engine of governance is perpetuated by investing time and efforts at
fine-tuning the policies and programmes of government.

He attributed the achievements of the administration to the resilience,
tenacity, determination and commitment of the civil servants, stressing
that the government will adequately cater for their welfare through
training and other programmes that enhance capacity building.

The head of service Mrs. Esther Anucha expressed delight at the
improvement in the service especially the area of facilities and capacity
building and promised that civil servants will reciprocate the good will
of government by contributing optimally in their assigned duties.


Mrs. Anucha pleaded with the government to build more owner-occupier
houses for civil servants as well as establish a modern staff development
centre at the greater port harcourt city.

Awards were given to some retired permanent secretaries, directors and
some serving officers at the ceremony.

The second edition of the magazine rivers bureaucrat published by the head
of service was presented to the public.

The event featured presentation of papers by professor N.E.S. Lale of the
university of Port Harcourt, Lady Anita Nwokeafor of the public, private
partnership office of the state and Gabriel Afolayan from ASCON, Badagry
Lagos.

There was also song rendition by the civil service choir.

Meanwhile wife of the rivers state governor dame Judith Amaechi has congratulated Team Rivers for emerging winner of the seventeenth sports festival tagged garden city games.

Mrs Amaechi in a statement signed by her media assistant, Dike Bekwele said the impressive performance of team rivers has shown that various reforms and youth summit organized by the present administration has started yielding results and charged the youths to look beyond the state and win international laurels.

Mrs. Amaechi also expressed appreciation to rivers people for organizing a remarkable festival which would not have been possible without the support of patriotic citizens.
