The Federal Government has declared Thursday and Friday next week as
public holidays to mark this year’s Eid El-Malud.

Interior minister Mr. Emmanuel Iheanacho in a statement today enjoined
Muslims as they celebrate to pray for the progress and peaceful
co-existence of the country as the twenty eleven general elections
approach.

Lagos state governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has sworn in seven new judges
in the state, bringing the number to fifty-six.

Addressing the judges today, Governor Fashola cautioned them on their
lifestyle, saying with their new appointment, they have become men and
women of integrity.

He added that with advancement in technology and anticipated increase in
crime wave, the state will appoint more judges with time.

Presently, there are thirty-five female and fourteen male judges in the
state with the top six positions in order of seniority dominated by female
judges.

Vice President Namadi Sambo has arrived Madina, Saudi Arabia for a
three-day lesser hajj, during which he would meet with Saudi Arabian
authorities after the Umrah.

He was received by the head of royal protocol Aminu Al-Sanusi, the
Nigerian ambassador to Saudi Arabia Abdullahi Garba Aminchi and top Saudi
officials.

While there, the Vice President, billed to start his Umrah today, is
expected to talk about the kingdom’s restriction on the performance of
pilgrimage to once in five years.

The new rule, according to Saudi authorities, took effect from last year
and will start applying to Nigerians this year.

The sum of four-point-seven million naira meant for pensioners in Estako
West Local Government Area of Edo State has been carted away by armed
robbers.

Reports say the robbery which took place in Auchi, Headquarters of the
local government area had trailed the council cashier from a new
generation bank where he had gone to withdraw the money.

According to the report, the cashier had raised an alarm when the robbers
blocked his car with a motorcycle, took the money from him.

A police officer who was attracted to the scene had to retreat after
exhausting his twenty-five rounds of ammunition, giving the robbers
opportunity to escape into a near by bush.

The Estako-West Local Government Council Boss, Mr. Gani Audu who confirmed
the incident said investigation was already on.

The First Lady Dame patience Jonathan has stressed the need for the
exploration of music as a veritable tool for social transformation.

Dame Jonathan stated this in Abuja at a jubilee musical concert by a
non-governmental organisation orchestra and choir organisation to
celebrate the country’s golden jubilee.

Represented by the federal capital territory minister of state, Mrs
Mopelola Olubade, the first lady said apart from its spiritual power music
plays a great role in youth development and conflict resolution.

She urged Nigerians to support the group in bringing succour to the
less-privileged in the society.
