The Niger Delta Leaders, Elders and Stakeholders Forum on Monday asked Acting President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately sack ministers allegedly disloyal and disobedient to him.
Specifically, the group asked Jonathan to remove 12 ministers, who allegedly asked him not to dissolve the Federal Executive Council.
The NDLESF’s National Secretary, Mr. Ayakeme Whisky, who spoke on behalf of the group on the telephone, said the ministers’ letter smacked of insubordination and unwillingness of the ministers to drive the Acting President’s vision to move the country forward.
According to him, the action of the ministers deliberately undermined the person and position of Jonathan, adding that it showed that they were not suitable to serve as members of FEC in the present dispensation.
Whisky said the NDLESF supported the position of the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council, Gen. T. Y. Danjuma, (rtd.) that Jonathan must act now.
Whisky, who was relieved of his appointment as Commissioner for Lands and Housing in Bayelsa State by Governor Timipreye Sylva last Saturday, allegedly because of his role in the emergence of Jonathan as Acting President, said some ministers had no business remaining in FEC.
Whisky said, “The 12 ministers, who wrote to undermine the Office of the Acting President, are not supposed to remain in FEC. They are saying the Acting President is not an authentic person for the presidency. They are telling the Acting President that they are not prepared to take instructions from him again. This type of action and attitude abuse the sensibilities of Nigerians.
“Consequently, the Acting President is expected to act now as advised by Gen. T.Y. Danjuma. He (Jonathan) cannot work with these people, who have constituted themselves into a cog in the wheel of progress of the country.
“As Danjuma rightly advised, Jonathan has no excuse to fail and Nigerians will not tolerate any excuse for his failure. So, he has to be decisive because these ministers do not respect him and they cannot work with him.”
