TITLE: AMAECHI AT SERVICE

GOVERNOR CHIBUIKE AMAECHI OF RIVERS STATE HAS ENJOINED MEMBERS OF THE
ANGLICAN COMMUNION TO DEDICATE THEMSELVES TO THE SERVICE OF GOD, RATHER
THAN POLITICISING IT.

GOVERNOR AMAECHI STATED THIS TODAY DURING THE INAUGURATION OF THE EVO
DIOCESE AND ENTHRONEMENT OF BISHOP INNOCENT UCHECHUKWU ORDU AT ALL SAINTS
CATHEDRAL, RUMUOKWURUSI PORT HARCOURT.

THE GOVERNOR, WHO BLAMED SOME MEMBERS FOR GOING TO COURT OVER TRIVIAL
ISSUES SUCH AS THE LOCATION OF THE NEW DIOCESE, SAID THE DENOMINATION HAS
THE HIGHEST RECORD OF CASES INVOLVING THE CHURCH.

HE REGRETTED THE WAR OF WORDS ON LOCAL TABLOIDS BY MEMBERS IN THE HOUSE OF
GOD, INSTEAD OF DEVOTING THEMSELVES TO PRAYERS AND THE WORSHIP OF GOD.

GOVERNOR AMAECHI HIGHLIGHTED STEPS TAKEN BY HIS ADMINISTRATION TO IMPROVE
THE STANDARD OF EDUCATION IN THE STATE, STRESSING THAT SOME OF THE
STRUCTURES DEMOLISHED, INCLUDING CHURCHES, WERE NOT DONE FOR FUN.

HE ALSO ANNOUNCED THAT THE STATE GOVERNMENT HAS AWARDED CONTRACT FOR THE
DUALISATION OF THE UMUOKWURUSI/ENEKA/IGWURUTA ROAD WITH SUB-SURFACE
DRAINAGE AT THE COST OF NINE BILLION NAIRA, WHILE A THIRTY PER CENT
MOBILISATION FEE HAS BEEN PAID TO DECONGEST TRAFFIC IN THE AREA.

THE GOVERNOR APPEALED FOR CO-OPERATION AND UNDERSTANDING BY THE PEOPLE AS
SOME OF THE BUILDINGS MAY BE AFFECTED IN THE COURSE OF THE EXPANSION WORK
THAT WOULD COMMENCE AT THE END OF THE RAINY SEASON TO GIVE RESIDENTS A NEW
LEASE OF LIFE.

SPEAKING AT THE INAUGURATION, THE ARCHBISHOP, METROPOLITAN AND PRIMATE OF
THE ANGLICAN CHURCH OF NIGERIA, MOST REVEREND PETER AKINOLA SAID THE EVO
DIOCESE BRINGS THE NUMBER OF DIOCESES TO ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-SIX IN THE
COMMUNION IN NIGERIA.

HE SAID HENCEFORTH, ANY NEW DIOCESE TO BE CREATED MUST MEET ALL LAID DOWN
CONDITIONS INCLUDING SEED MONEY OF TEN MILLION NAIRA FOR THE TAKE OFF OF
THE DIOCESE.

REVEREND AKINOLA THANKED GOVERNOR AMAECHI FOR ATTENDING THE EVENT AND
PLEDGED THE SUPPORT OF THE CHURCH TOWARDS THE SUCCESS OF HIS
ADMINISTRATION.

EARLIER IN A SERMON RT. REV. FRIDAY EMAKAHIA, SECRETARY OF THE HOUSE OF
BISHOPS AND BISHOP OF ISHAN DIOCESE, EDO STATE SAID THE CHALLENGE OF
DEVELOPING THE NEW DIOCESE RESTS ON ALL MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH AND CALLED
FOR CO-OPERATION AND DEVOTION TO DUTY AMONG THEM.
